Was it a good movie? Not really.
Was it a fun movie? Extremely.

Cage was absolutely fantastic, and, in my opinion, killed it with his interpretation.

You have to think this is the perspective of Renfield with his servitude of Dracula. Hoult was excellent, as usual, with eclectic roles, but the film was basically a John Wick film with a ridiculously over-the-top amount of blood and gore. Was it fun? 💯. Was it another fine Cage performance? Also 💯. Was the film kind of a mess? Yeah, it was. It shifted tones and styles pretty frequently, and maybe too much humor, some of which didn’t quite hit the mark, but the ending was fantastic, and I still enjoyed it. It’s worth a watch for the performances of Cage and Hoult. Awkwafina and Ben Schwartz were both themselves, which served well, but it didn’t require much for them as characters.

Cage’s makeup and costumes were exactly what I hoped for, with references to the laughing man, and the integration of Cage into the original Bela Dracula was also excellent. Something about it just missed the mark in spots, which held it back from being a top-notch horror comedy. If you love Cage, you will enjoy him here. If you are not much of a fan, the movie will just be an hour of “What the fuck?” Cage carries it. It’s a lot of CGI blood splatter and a performance from Cage that will stand with all his other insane roles.

Was it worth it to let Renfield out of his Cage? ( HA! ) Well, that is for you to decide.
